Consultation on New Plymouth planning rules

The Government commissioned an investigation into selected provisions of the Part Operative New Plymouth District Plan to assess whether they constrain economic growth, development capacity or employment. It is now consulting affected parties on the report and its recommendations.

Feedback will inform whether the Minister Responsible for RMA Reform should use a new regulation-making power to remove or modify any of those local plan provisions. Submitters can compare the recommendations with the current rules and explain likely development, infrastructure, environmental or community effects.

The process could alter local planning rules through national regulations rather than the usual council plan-change process.

Any changes may affect development opportunities, property interests, infrastructure and environmental outcomes in New Plymouth.
